Dye's latest
Fred Seely's column
A spectacular new Pete Dye course is the centerpiece of a spectacular new development in Curacao, the tiny island that's all the way down the Caribbean chain.

The course rambles through a $700 million venture named Santa Barbara Plantation. It includes a 370-room Hyatt Regency and every imaginable amenity.

The resort, in fact, is so good that you have to make sure you fit in time to play the golf course. But you will, and you'll find something different than you anticipate.

No tricks here, like Dye's famed Teeth of the Dog in the Dominican Republic. It's very straightforward and takes advantage of the land that slopes down off a large mountain to the sea.

Curacao isn't a golf destination by any means. It's a cruise ship destination and there's only one other golf course on the island, a somewhat beat-up muny.

Amelia activity
Fred Seely’s column
Wednesday, July 14, 2010
Lots of things happening on Amelia Island with every course situation in some form of turmoil: • The city is preparing to dump the golf course and has Request For Proposals out. They previously leased the marina to a private company and we hear the airport is next. Jacksonville Beach architect Bobby Weed appears to be the frontrunner but pro Scott Womble also is bidding. >> Read Full Story

Ratings down for Players
Fred Seely’s column
Friday, May 14, 2010
Television ratings for The Players may have ben down as much as 20 percent. No good reason; Tiger was around for 3 1/2 days and the finish was reasonably compelling. Good weather around the nation may have been a factor, showing the people would rather play than watch. >> Read Full Story
And heeeeer they come ...
Fred Seely’s column
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
Now, it’s our turn. The Tiger Watch is on. The Players used to be a rather normal PGA Tour event. A bigger purse, a better field, a little more seriousness. Not your Greater Jacksonville Open, for sure, but not the Masters, either. The show came to town, played out its run, and moved on to points west. A nice time was had by all, and most was forgotten along with the hangovers. >> Read Full Story

Book review
Wednesday, April 7, 2010
"Golf Girl's Little Tartan Book" is a delightful little tome that's written in short paragraphs over many subjects. It combines instruction with humor and yes, it's a ladies' book that men will find perhaps a bit catty toward the good old boys networks. >> Read Full Story
